Day 3: Find Your Passion

It is true what they say that as you get older, things in life start to make more sense. I am in my mid 20s now and I can finally see some sort of resonance with that way of thinking.

Do you ever look around and wonder where did you go wrong? You see doctors, lawyers, businessmen and the like, when you are still typing away at a computer for 8 hours a day for the benefit of a corporation. What was meant to be a small stint at a job you hate, turned into years of you life gone and then when you have finally woken up, you realise you are too late. I guess you can say life is difficult sometimes.

I am starting to realise that they key to breaking the routine is to just stop what you are doing and do something else. Anything. Just break the norm and start from there. So that is what I’ve been doing for the last few months and I can already see a few changes in my mood, my energy levels and overall my ambitions to get our of the rat race.

For me, my change was to actually claim the time that is  mine and enjoy the moment of silent an quietness. Life dictate us to always keep moving, work long hours, spend time at the gym, socialise with friends, visit your family, drink yourself silly at the pub. Basically do everything possible under the sun but to sit still and take in your surroundings. The key is to sit still and listen to yourself. That is the least you deserve. Disconnect from the world and spend the time you can with yourself. You will then discover what things you may want to try and what things you want to force out of your system.

In my case, I have started to write more and care less what people may think of my writing or my opinions. I no longer force myself to go to the gym 4 times a week but rather take long walks through London. I take my time with everything that I do. I no longer rush to the office to be the first one in. No one matters more at this point but me. And this is the point.

The moment you realise that you are the key to your life, then you can start to look for the things that make you happy. For me its writing, and illustration. I love being creative but never knew it was ‘my thing’. I still don’t know if it is but I am giving myself the chance to explore it. Giving things a try also allows you to tolerate more the things you hate, like your day job.

Life is meant to be lived. Don’t worry what people say about you. Be true to yourself and be kind to you. The rest can wait
